Does FtpClient.FileExists() disregard SetWorkingDirectory() ?

If I say:
ftpClient.SetWorkingDirectory("/mydir/");
Then say:
if (ftpClient.FileExists("file.txt"))
Will that only look in the working directory, as I am expecting it to? Or do I have to specify the working directory every time I am trying to determine if a file exists, like :
if (ftpClient.FileExists("/mydir/file.txt")
